| This Program provides
special substance abuse treatment services for adolescents who are involved
with methamphetamine ("meth"). To our knowledge, this Program is
the first of its type for adolescents in the United State and is
a model for holistic treatment for this particularly dangerous drug.

Historically, 90% of our clients have had
substance abuse problems. In our
area, girls are particularly likely to become involved with meth
as a "diet aid."
Treatment admissions for meth use
more than doubled in our region in the second half of the 1990s,
and local and regional officials have scrambled to deal with the many
problems posed by methamphetamine production and use. Meth users have
had a difficult time finding recovery in traditional substance abuse
programs, so it is critical to develop new approaches to deal with this
particularly addictive drug.
The Meth Track combines Turning Point's
existing Substance Abuse Program with specific services designed for
adolescent methamphetamine users. Special services for clients who are
placed in the Meth Program will include:
--Education on the impacts of methamphetamine
use and recovery.
--Relapse prevention services.
--Nutrition and dietary services.
--Help in building a healthy body image.
--Help with skin problems, depression,
sleeplessness, cravings, and dental problems.
--Special exercise programs.
--Family therapy by a specially-trained
therapist.
The Methamphetamine Treatment Program provides
a way for Turning Point to meet the special needs of its clients who
face problems with this particularly difficult drug. It is an important
new way that we promote good health for our clients, their families,
and our communities.
